Gallery 2.3 (Skidoo) Released!

Gallery 2.3 (Skidoo) is now available for download! It's been almost 20 months since the last major release and Gallery 2.3 is packed with new features and enhancements. Major new features include: A much improved slideshow using PicLens to provide a rich, full screen experience Comment spam filtering with Akismet and configurable e-mail notifications.

As always before you ask for help, please, please read the README -- we've made an effort to answer all of your questions there. Especially read the known issues section. Upgrading is quick and easy, but if you're upgrading from 2.1 or earlier there are a few things you should know first so be sure to scan the upgrading instructions.

New Features of Gallery 2.3 Include:

  1. New version of the slideshow module now uses PicLens to provide a rich, full screen slideshow.
  2. Comment module now offers moderation and Akismet support to help weed out spam comments.
  3. New email notification module allowing users to configure events they wish to get notified for. You can watch albums for changes, items for new comments, etc.
  4. Support for SQLite 3.x as a database backend.
  5. Smaller downloads available
    1. English only version, with new Language Manager that allows the addition or removal of translations.
    2. Significantly fewer language related directories in all versions
    1. Smarty templates now permanently cached by default. Turn this off in Site Admin / Performance when working on tpl files, so changes take effect immediately during development.
    2. Avoid reading EXIF data multiple times in Carbon theme.
    3. Some added caching in GalleryUrlGenerator.
    4. Use progress bar when adding items to avoid server or browser timeouts. Particularly helpful when adding many items from local server.
    5. Refactor of translator hints to avoid some processing when translations are not used (en_US).
    6. Faster plugin and language package downloads.
    7. Refactor of event system working towards a performance improvement in the next release.
    1. Use AJAX to speed up deleting comments(spam) on items/albums and to switch between EXIF modes.
    2. Use quick DHTML confirm dialog for deleting single items. Dialog offers link to bulk delete several items from an album.
    3. Use YUI ItemTree instead of plain select box to select target album when moving items, creating replicas or link items.

    Translations and Integrations: Additionally, 8 languages are 100% translated, 20 more are over 50% translated, and we are pretty close to launching a new community translation tool thanks to John Britton, one of our Google Summer of Code Students!     Security: Like each and every Gallery 2 release before this one, after a professional security audit and internal audits, we have made many improvements to protect your Gallery installation and you. No known exploits exist for the current version of Gallery (R2.2.6), however, we highly recommend that you upgrade to Gallery 2.3 to insure the security of your Gallery installation.

    Version 2.3-1 of the Debian gallery2 package was uploaded in the morning (EDT) of Sunday, October 19, 2008 and will be available after the archive push in the afternoon (EDT) of Sunday, October 19, 2008.

    The Visual Studio Code instructions use the .NET Core CLI for ASP.NET Core development functions such as project creation. You can follow these instructions on any platform (macOS, Linux, or Windows) and with any code editor. Minor changes may be required if you use something other than Visual Studio Code.     Method to Create New Pages, Blocks, and Widgets Using Magento 2 CMS:

    Create a New Page Using Magento 2 CMS:

    Add a new page

    1. Login to Admin Panel
    2. Navigate to Content > Elements > Pages.
    3. Click the “Add New Page” button.
    4. Enable the page
    5. Enter the page title.

    Enter the Content

    1. Expand the Content to fill the page content.
    2. Enter the main heading of the page in the “Content Heading
    3. Click on the “Show/Hide Editor” to add or edit the text of the page.

    Search Engine Optimization

    1. Expand the Search Engine Optimization to fill the data important for SEO.
    2. Enter the URL Key of the page.
    3. Enter the Meta Title.
    4. Enter the Meta Keywords
    5. Enter the Meta Description.

    Pages in Website

    1. Expand the Pages in Websites to select the store view.
    2. In the “Store View“, select the store view for which the page is displayed.


    1. Expand the Design
    2. Select the Page Layout
    3. Enter the Layout Update XML if required.

    Custom Design Update

    1. Expand the Custom Design Update to customize the page design.
    2. Select the time period for the design. For example, offers, holidays, etc.
    3. Select new theme from the dropdown
    4. Select a new layout from the dropdown.

    Create a New Block Using Magento 2 CMS:

    1. Navigate Content > Elements > Blocks.
    2. Click the “Add New Block” button.
    3. Enable Block status.
    4. Enter the “Block Title” which can be descriptive.
    5. Enter the “Identifier” which has to be unique and in lowercase. Do not use space, instead use the underscore. The identifier is the internal reference used by the system.
    6. Select the Store View to enable the block for.
    7. Enter the content for the block. You can place links, images, videos, tables, etc. in the content.
    8. Save the block configuration with the “Save” button.

    Create a New Widget Using Magento 2 CMS:

    1. Navigate to Content > Elements > Widgets.
    2. Click the “Add New Widget” button
    3. Select the “Widget Type” that you want to create and the “Design Theme” that is to be used in the widget.
    4. Click on “Continue
    5. Add the descriptive “Widget Title
    6. Select the store views in “Assign to Store Views” where the created widget will be available.
    7. Enter the sort order. Enter 0 for the top position.
    8. Click on the “Add Layout Update” button under Layout Updates.
    9. Select the type of category or product page where the widget will appear, from the “Display On” dropdown.
    10. In Page, Container and Template lists set the block or section for the widget to appear.
    11. Click “Save and Continue Edit” to save these configurations.
    12. Under “Widget Options” select the block where you want to locate it.
    13. Save the configuration.

    Clear cache after you create new pages, blocks, and widgets using Magento 2 CMS.

    Facebook API 2.3's new publish_pages permission - do I need it?

    I'm quite confused about Facebook's new publish_pages permission.

    My Facebook app allows our CMS users to post to their Facebook pages via our CMS, posing as the page. We have been granted (via the login review process) the manage_pages and publish_actions permissions.

    publish_pages Permission - This new permission is required to publish as a Page. Previously publish_actions was required. People who granted manage_pages and publish_actions before v2.3 have automatically been granted publish_pages. If anyone logs in via v2.3, you'll need to request publish_pages explicitly in addition to manage_pages.

    We have not been granted the publish_pages permission automatically.

    For Page developers, we've added the ability to deliver more content on a Page via real-time updates (RTUs). A new Login permission, publish_pages , is now required for apps to publish on behalf of Pages previously, this required publish_actions.

    So it sounds to me like if we upgrade to use API 2.3, our service will no longer work, because we haven't been granted publish_pages.

    A user access token with publish_actions permission can be used to publish new posts on behalf of that person. Posts will appear in the voice of the user.

    A page access token with publish_pages permission can be used to publish new posts on behalf of that page. Posts will appear in the voice of the page.

    We do want to post in the voice of the page, as we do currently.

    Therefore I opened a new login review request and summarised all of the above, quoting their changelog. Facebook's response was this:

    You don't need the publish_pages permission because you already have the publish_actions and manage_pages permissions granted. Publish_pages is a new feature that allows an app to publish to a managed Facebook fan page, but your previously granted permissions contain this functionality already.

    Is it just me, or does that response conflict with everything else they've written?

    So my question is simply, do we need this new permission going forward or not, and have they wrongly not automatically granted it to us?

    2.3: New Page

    The New International Version (NIV) is a completely original translation of the Bible developed by more than one hundred scholars working from the best available Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts.

    The initial vision for the project was provided by a single individual &ndash an engineer working with General Electric in Seattle by the name of Howard Long. Long was a lifelong devotee of the King James Version, but when he shared it with his friends he was distressed to find that it just didn&rsquot connect. Long saw the need for a translation that captured the truths he loved in the language that his contemporaries spoke.

    For 10 years, Long and a growing group of like-minded supporters drove this idea. The passion of one man became the passion of a church, and ultimately the passion of a whole group of denominations. And finally, in 1965, after several years of preparatory study, a trans-denominational and international group of scholars met in Palos Heights, Illinois, and agreed to begin work on the project &ndash determining to not simply adapt an existing English version of the Bible but to start from scratch with the best available manuscripts in the original languages. Their conclusion was endorsed by a large number of church leaders who met in Chicago in 1966.

    A self-governing body of fifteen biblical scholars, the Committee on Bible Translation (CBT) was formed and charged with responsibility for the version, and in 1968 the New York Bible Society (which subsequently became the International Bible Society and then Biblica) generously undertook the financial sponsorship of the project. The translation of each book was assigned to translation teams, each made up of two lead translators, two translation consultants, and a stylistic consultant where necessary. The initial translations produced by these teams were carefully scrutinized and revised by intermediate editorial committees of five biblical scholars to check them against the source texts and assess them for comprehensibility. Each edited text was then submitted to a general committee of eight to twelve members before being distributed to selected outside critics and to all members of the CBT in preparation for a final review. Samples of the translation were tested for clarity and ease of reading with pastors, students, scholars, and lay people across the full breadth of the intended audience. Perhaps no other translation has undergone a more thorough process of review and revision. From the very start, the NIV sought to bring modern Bible readers as close as possible to the experience of the very first Bible readers: providing the best possible blend of transparency to the original documents and comprehension of the original meaning in every verse. With this clarity of focus, however, came the realization that the work of translating the NIV would never be truly complete. As new discoveries were made about the biblical world and its languages, and as the norms of English usage developed and changed over time, the NIV would also need to change to hold true to its original vision.

    And so in the original NIV charter, provision was made not just to issue periodic updates to the text but also to create a mechanism for constant monitoring of changes in biblical scholarship and English usage. The CBT was charged to meet every year to review, maintain, and strengthen the NIV&rsquos ability to accurately and faithfully render God&rsquos unchanging Word in modern English.

    The 2011 update to the NIV is the latest fruit of this process. By working with input from pastors and Bible scholars, by grappling with the latest discoveries about biblical languages and the biblical world, and by using cutting-edge research on English usage, the Committee on Bible Translation has updated the text to ensure that the New International Version of the Bible remains faithful to Howard Long&rsquos original inspiration.

    About OpenTX versions

    OpenTX versions are delivered as sets of major and minor releases. Major releases represent big steps with lots of feature changes and new functionality, which require changes in the way model data is stored and thus breaks compatibility with the previous one. Minor releases within a major one will fix bugs, correct functionality that needs changes, add new functionality that doesn’t require breaking compatibility, or remove features that are deemed useless.

    As we are dependent on user feedback, a major release will start as “unstable” and will go through several rounds of refinement based on the gathered user experiences, which can initially cause radical changes in the way a feature operates between minor versions. Once things have settled and we have decent documentation available that major version will become “stable” i.e. its features will be frozen, and from that moment on any new minor versions would only be released to fix bugs that may be discovered.

    We recommend “normal users” not to jump on a new major revision straight away as following the minor revisions of an unstable branch requires careful attention to the changelog to find out about things that may have changed and could potentially break existing setups, and documentation is usually not ready yet. They should thus stick with “stable” versions. Advanced users who want to be on the bleeding edge, want to provide feedback and/or suggest modifications, can find their way without documentation and can follow the evolution closely are welcome to do so during the unstable period, of course at their own risk.

    Currently, the supported major versions of OpenTX are:

    Major releases are independent, OpenTX companion 2.0.x will download firmware 2.0.x, OpenTX companion 2.1.x will download firmware 2.1.x etc. Updates between major versions are manual, you need to download the required companion yourself, no updates will be automatically offered. When upgrading from one major version to the next it is recommended to backup both your current firmware and settings, and to thoroughly check all of your models’ functions still operate correctly after the built-in upgrade procedure has completed. Downgrading models and settings is not possible, so should you want to switch back to an older major version you will need to either reload your backup or start from scratch again.
